Schnuck Markets Inc. is laying off nearly 200 union workers at its warehouse in Bridgeton.

The company plans to eliminate 190 jobs at its Bridgeton Distribution Center as is moves to a more modern distribution center in Kinloch that will be operated by a third-party company, KSDK reports.

The affected employees may be offered a severance package or other jobs within the company.

Mike Goebel, secretary and treasurer of Teamsters Local 688, said the union was informed about the plans at an April 4 meeting, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He told the newspaper that the union has filed a grievance claiming Schnucks violated collective bargaining agreements.

The job cuts are expected to take place between late July and September.
